Human severe-outcome context

741 observations across 191 countries

The public supplement contains four WHO mortality-rate series exposed through the World Bank Indicators API: household and ambient air pollution, unsafe water and sanitation, road traffic, and suicide. All values use deaths per 100,000 population, so comparisons are restricted to this compatible unit family.

Coverage

183 complete country profiles

All four indicators share a latest common reference year for 183 countries. Eight additional countries use clearly labeled mixed latest years.

Interpretation

Mortality is a proxy

These rates do not measure pain intensity, duration, prevalence, disability, nonfatal suffering, or total welfare burden.

The bounded candidate cohort covers China, Germany, Indonesia, Japan, Mexico, Russia, the United Kingdom, and the United States. It records land animals slaughtered annually, agricultural insecticide use, and land area context with retrieval receipts and checksums.

No cross-domain composite score

Mortality rates, animal counts, chemical mass, land area, pain-duration estimates, and welfare weights are not commensurable. PainMap permits within-metric comparisons when units, methods, and reference-period semantics match. Any future synthesis must expose its transformations, uncertainty, sensitivity, and moral assumptions rather than hiding them in a single number.
